NREMT ACKNOWLEDGES LOSS OF MARK COYNE

National Registry Advanced Level Representative, RN, and paramedic Mark Coyne was killed Saturday, May 10, 2008 when the Med Flight helicopter he was riding in crashed in Onalaska, Wisconsin. He will be sadly missed by the NREMT.

Mark served as the Wisconsin Paramedic Program Director for Madison Area Technical College and was a full-time instructor. He was part of The University of Wisconsin Hospital Med Flight crew that had dropped off a patient Saturday and was returning to Madison when the helicopter crashed. He had served the Med Flight system for 22 years.

The NREMT will remember the service he provided to the National Registry and the EMS community.

ORIENTATION FOR NEW STATE DIRECTORS HELD IN MAY

An orientation for new state directors was held at the NREMT office in Columbus, Ohio on May 14, 2008. The day-long session gives directors a better understanding of the NREMT operations to help make their job more productive and efficient.

The state directors met NREMT staff at an informal breakfast, and then attended sessions including the National EMS Certification process, Cognitive & Psychomotor Exam Development Process, CBT and IRT (Item Response Theory), Ed Net, and more.

State Directors in attendance were: Maxie Bishop (Texas); Dennis Blair (Alabama); Robert Waller (Kansas); Ross Pottschmidt (Louisiana); & Marty Billings (Georgia).

“The presentations reinforced our understanding and knowledge of the [National] Registry,” commented one state director.

“We emphasize to the state directors that the NREMT is here to serve them in every way we can,” said NREMT Executive Director William Brown, Jr. “We believe our partnership with them provides the citizens of their state with the competent emergency medical care they deserve.”

I have recently completed the EMT National Registry exam and have since then become a paramedic. I have a great understanding of the National Registry Test's contents and it's grading process, but before I took the EMT and Paramedic test, I searched the web for an EMT site that could provided me with some study tips.
